Mars Baseball & Fast Pitch Softball Association currently participates in the Greater Pittsburgh Girls Softball League. This league provides competition within Mars as well as neighboring community associations.
REGISTRATION AGE IS BASED OFF OF THE PLAYERS BIRTHDATE ON 9/1/2025:
For example if a player is born on February 25, 2013 and would be 13 years old when the season starts. They are classified as 12U because they were 12 as of 9/1/2025
8U: Coach Pitch Softball
This will be a intro to kid pitch & coach/manager combination, this is instructional yet still providing the girls with a bit of competitive experience. This intro to kid pitch will be a portion of each game, using 11” softball at this level. No ASA/USA Softball umpires for these games.
10U: Modified Coach Pitch Softball
At this level girls are introduced to basic fast pitch softball skills. Bases are 60 feet with a pitching distance of 35 feet. Ten (10) players are permitted on defense. Games are a minimum of 6 innings with a 10-run rule after 4 innings. A player can pitch no more than 3 innings per game. Girls pitch until there are 4 balls on the batter, then the coach comes in to pitch and the count resets. A base runner may steal 2nd and 3rd base only. An 11" softball is used at this level. ASA/USA Softball umpires are present at this level of play.
12U & 15U Softball
At this level girls continue the basic and advanced fast pitch skills in a competitive setting. Bases are 60 feet with a pitching distance of 40 feet for 12U and 43 feet for 15U. Nine (9) players are permitted on defense. Games are 7 innings with a 10-run rule after 5 innings. There is no restriction on the number of innings a pitcher can pitch. Also, at this level the 3rd strike rule is in effect. A base runner may steal 2nd, 3rd, and home plate. At this level girls are introduced to a regulation 12” softball. ASA/USA Softball umpires are present at this level of play.
Equipment Requirements:
- Glove
- Infielders face mask
- Helmet w/ face mask
- Gray baseball/softball pants
- Cleats (nonmetal/15U metal allowed) and/or sneakers (for turf play)
- Optional – bat (approved by ASA/USSA)
